CHARACTER: Senior Drill Instructor Master Sergeant Lennox Tate

While I consider Dan to be the weakest character, I think Tate is the strongest.  The story is essentially about him and his transformation.

Where on earth did this man come from?  I wanted Tate to be the ultimate top, the ultimate master, the ultimate man.  I wanted him to be the alpha male of all alpha males.

He needed to be intelligent.  He had to be manipulative—well beyond what has been found in other S&M stories.  But mostly he needed to be two or three steps ahead of the reader.

So to start the creation of Tate, I had to come up with what he is.  Cop, Fireman, Construction Contractor, etc.  I zeroed in on the toughest of men: a Marine.  It was natural to make the leap to Drill Sergeant.  It took me about one minute on the internet to find out that was my first mistake.  He became a Drill Instructor.

Next was Sgt Tate's name. Lennox was a result of going to Costco in Novato, CA and seeing a big young man with Ox on his name tag. I thought that was hot. It's not an animal name I have heard used to describe a masculine man. So I looks at a list of boys names that ended in "ox" and found Knox, Mattox, and Lennox; Lennox won. For Tate's last name, I knew it had to go with Sergeant. So I was thinking a great deal about it, and it had to be monosyllabic.  Tate just seemed right.

Now I have a name and an occupation.  I needed a look.  I need my own ideal man—tall, hairy, big dick etc.  Needless to say my partner MACK fits that to a tee:

It was about this time that I came across an unplayable Japanese porno game called Okinawa Slave Island.  It was full of great pics of muscle daddies doing raunchy things.  Two pics caught my attention.  The first is the former banner to this blog and the second one is a shower scene:

If I ever needed inspiration, these two pics gave it.

He needed to be intelligent.  This was the easiest to do, as the plot details needed to be pre-planned with hints along the way.

He needed to be wealthy.  The best way to achieve that is to have him benefit from his Marine experience.  The inventor scenario made sense.  It also ties into the intelligence side.  The funny thing is that no where in the story does he actually work on any invention; the remote control alert system he gave Dan on Day 8 doesn't count.

He had to be an asshole.  Every experience I read about Drill Instructors has those instructors being 100% asshole jerks.  So the first few days of the story he needed to be a giant prick.  He needed to be that Drill Instructor to Dan; he needed to put the young man through his own bootcamp.

Finding Valley's sword was the changing point for Tate.  He let his guard down for Dan.  This desperately needed to happen.  I had written so much about Tate as an ass, that I needed to show a different side of him.  Having the two of them alone at the Lodge allowed for Tate to be himself.  It couldn't have happened anytime earlier, as Tate is the most verbally abusive whenever there is an audience.

As soon as I wrote that scene, I felt liberated.  Tate became alive to me.  This is the point where I really started to write some damn good stuff.  What followed that scene is about how Tate evolves into a complete man.

On a side note, here's an interesting story regarding an inspiration for Tate:

While writing, pictures of a Facebook friend that I never met in person came across on my feed.  He matched Tate incredibly well.
I have never interacted with him nor really had any info other than what he posted on Facebook.  So he was a blank canvas for me to project Tate's mannerisms on.  That served me for the remaining days as I shifted towards a more character driven story.  He is quite inspirational.
He's partnered with a hot man.  This facebook friend is quite intelligent too just like Tate.  Unfortunately due to his career, he has to maintain a certain level of propriety, so I can't share his pic here.
As I was about to write the last chapter, I went to Kylie Minogue's concert in San Francisco.  And who should I bump into there?  But that man!  The man that I have been inspired by is standing beside me in the middle of the general admittance floor at the Kylie show.  Well, I introduced myself as his Facebook friend.
About half way through the show, he was hugging me.  I didn't stop drooling over him.  What amazes me is how similar to Tate he is in person.  He was being very aggressive with me.  My nipples were tweaked and he was groping my crotch.  He reached in to my pants to grab my cock and balls.  I told him that I would more accommodating and took my cock and balls out of my jeans.  He started jacking me right there in the middle of the standing room floor.  No one was paying attention to us as we kissed.  I felt his massively muscular body as he starts putting me through my paces right there.  I wanted to cum for him so bad, but there was so much going on, it just didn't happen that night.
I sent him Day 1 of the story, and he was floored how much alike he and Tate are.  I then sent him the remaining days, and haven't heard his feedback on it.  I probably lost him with all the heavy raunch; this was prior to my re-write.
We still chat on-line, and he is just as wonderfully aggressive as ever.  Woof Woof Woof
